Welcome to Dove class

Welcome to Dove Class – We are a wonderful class of 17 creative, curious and collaborative learners. We are resourceful, resilient and reflective and can not wait to use these JONK characteristics whilst learning in our new calming enviroment.

Dove’s Class teacher is Mrs Betts and we have the wonderful Mrs Emery and Mrs McCann joining us in class too. Mrs Emery will be teaching us PE on Wednesday.

We are a warm and welcoming class who are ready to learn all things ‘JONK’ - the Joy Of New Knowledge. Using our JONK characteristics and new skills we are so excited to be exploring new topics this term. We have had a wonderful first year as part of AIM Federation (previously Coastal Together) and are really looking forward to some more exciting new activities and learning opportunities for the academic year 2024-2025. We know that Dove Class will continue to be amazing JONK  learners and that we will have a fantastic time together!

Things you need to bring to school

  • Reading book and reading record (we will be issuing these to you at the beginning of term)
  • Water bottle (with water so we avoid sticky spillages).  It is important that you remember that it is water only in the classroom.
  • PE kit on Wednesday
  • Fruit or vegetable snack for break
  • A coat and/or School jumper/cardigan

Homework Reception

Learning at home is extremely important as it helps you to revise what you have learnt in school.  It also helps you to be a confident and positive learner.  This term, we expect you to complete your Handwriting Homework every week. Handwriting will be given out on a Monday and is required to be handed in by the Monday of the following week. You will have a choice of a ‘Funky Finger’ Activity or letter formation practice - or you can do both!.

We also want you to read regularly at home, at least three times a week.  This is really vital as you will be reading lots of new information in class and reading at home will help with your fluency and comprehension skills.  Please fill in your reading record with what you have read at home, including any non-school books.  Your adult should sign your reading record after each read.

Reading Eggs, Mathletics and Times Table Rock Stars (TTRS)

On alternate weeks, the children will be given a computer for their early work to complete Reading Eggs.  This is a programme which allows children to work at their own pace.  It supports the learning of spelling patterns as well as helping them with comprehension style questions.

Mathletics is an online programme that is specifically designed to engage students with maths. The children are incentivised to achieve and progress through the stages at their own pace.

The log-in for this will be stuck into your child’s Reading Record.

Celebrating success

We love to see what adventures your child gets up to at home - clubs they attend , baking, reading, making dens, being creative, going on nature walks. Dojo is a wonderful place to share these with us and the class - please upload your photos and a brief description so we can share these together during circle time.

Rewards – praise, dojos for super learning behaviours and demonstrating school values, secret learner and Headteacher Awards. We can’t wait to present these to you!  We are introducing a new and exciting Dojo initiative.  Children will receive one dojo for each read at home (up to 5 a week), completing homework, following our AIM expectations and being kind and caring individuals.  These dojos can be ‘spent’ in our Swanton Swap shop.

Parents/carers

As a team, we are always here for you.  If you would like to discuss anything with us, please use our Dojo or email system to privately message us or call the school office to make an appointment to see us, if you would rather, so that it is not a rushed conversation at the gate.

We thank you for your continued support and we very much look forward to welcoming you into Doves Class.  Please message me if there is anything else that you would like to know.
