Merlin Class
Hello there from Merlin class. We are the year 5 and 6 class at Swanton Abbott and are taught by Mr Aston (Mrs Emery takes us on Thursday afternoon for PE). In Merlins we pride ourselves on our ability to think constructively and engage in spirited discussions on things that the children are really passionate or interested about. Everyone is warm and welcoming and always looking for something new and exciting to learn or try.
Maths this term will focus on the importance of place value and number, including the main calculation methods, along with daily arithmetic practice each morning from 8.40.
This autumn we are studying the Victorians in topic from what is was like as a child/family through to the art of printing and the industrial revolution, Forces in science, controlling and programming physical elements in computing using Crumble Kits and we have Tag-Rugby for PE, which is on a Thursday afternoon. Can children please come to school in PE kit on Thursday.
- Handwriting home work will be sent home on a Friday, to be handed in on a Wednesday the following week. It can be brought in earlier if this is completed.
- The children will also be given a reading eggs and mathletics log-in to enable access at home but also in school.
- Reading records will be taken home each day by the children and we would encourage reading at least 3 times in a week. These will need to be with the child every Friday where Dojo points will be given for the amount of reading completed at home and signed by an adult.
